Cinelounge Tiburon is ready for its Close-up!
Lights! Camera! Action! The long-awaited revitalization of downtown Tiburon’s only cinema is
finally ready for its close-up. Now called Cinelounge, the boutique three-screen movie theater
opened late this summer in the former Tiburon Playhouse, a downtown institution for more
than 60 years that closed permanently in 2020. New Tiburon residents and Cinelounge owners
Christian Meoli and his wife Camilla Jackson moved to town just a few months ago. They hope
their hip new cinema-lounge will become a beloved Tiburon addition.
“It had always been a dream for me to move up to the area,” said Meoli. “Downtown Tiburon’s
location on the water and the community just made it feel right. We love being a part of this
community, and our members feel like part of our family too.”
Plan on a line-up of new films along with independent and art flicks, and nostalgic favorites to
show, but check back often. Meoli is brimming with fun programming ideas. Individual tickets
can be purchased, but Meoli is counting on local membership to sustain the business, with fees
ranging from $50 to $209 month. Perks depend on the level and include things like monthly
tickets, reserved seating, and member-only screenings and events. Recently, Meoli helped
celebrate the 20th anniversary of surf-cult classic, Blue Crush, with a screening of the film
followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, John Stockwell, and party with live music.
Cinelounge is also bookable for private gatherings, meetings, kids’ birthday parties, holiday
events, and more.
Forget old-school movie seating. Seeing a film here means sinking into cozy chairs and
loveseats. The two larger theaters seat 70 people and have 35-foot screens while a smaller, 25-
seat theater is well-suited for private events. All three are equipped with 4K laser projection
and Dolby Surround 7.1 sound. No movie night is complete without a trip to the snack bar, and
Cinelounge doesn’t disappoint. Don’t miss their selection of signature (and seriously good)
flavored popcorns, each with film-themed names such as Some Like it Popped (with sea salt),
Rosemary’s Popcorn (rosemary and salted caramel) , and Popzilla (sweet chile lime). There’s
also beer and wine. Plans for hot food are in the works.
For lovers of one-of-a-kind finds, Meoli let us in on a little secret too. Inside the lobby is the
world’s only Alfred Hitchcock animatronic.
“I can easily see it becoming one of Tiburon’s best-kept secret attractions,” he laughed.
